Ingredients
Sodium Bicarbonate
Sodium bicarbonate, is a naturally occurring crystalline chemical compound, but is often found in powder form. It is considered non-toxic and safe, even when used in cooking and baking. Many waters with a pH <6.5 are acidic, soft and corrosive. Therefore, sodium compounds such as baking soda are added during water treatment in order to raise the pH level of the water by chemically neutralising the acidity, as well as to soften the water. In bath bombs, the powder is mixed with citric acid to create a hard base that will dissolve and fizz when dipped in hot water, helping to diffuse colours and essential oils.
Cocoa Butter
The fat in cocoa butter forms a protective barrier on the skin to hold in moisture. Cocoa butter is also rich in natural plant compounds called phytochemicals. These substances can improve blood flow to the skin and slow down skin aging by protecting it from damage caused by the sun's harmful UV rays.
Citric Acid
Citric acid is found naturally in citrus fruits, especially lemons and limes. It is what gives them their tart and sour taste. It exfoliates the skin, thereby unclogging pores and removing dead skin cells from the surface. This in turn promotes the growth of new skin which can remove age spots, pimple scars, and blemishes. It also prevents the build-up of dead skin cells that lead to blackheads and dry patches.
Cornstarch
It is widely used in cooking and baking. It is a pure starch powder that is extracted from the corn kernel by removing all its outer bran and germ, leaving behind the starch-rich endosperm. In cooking, it has a range of uses. Cornstarch can be a convenient remedy for skin irritation, it can help soothe sunburn and reduce itchy skin.
Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender oil is an essential oil derived from the lavender plant. It can be applied to the skin, and inhaled through aromatherapy. Lavender oil can benefit the skin in numerous ways. It has the ability to decrease acne, help soothe the skin, and reduce wrinkles.
